Why I Created a WhatsApp Channel
Every day, I spend time reading articles about technology 📚, especially topics related to programming 💻. Over time, the suggestions on my Chrome homepage have been tailored to these interests, often showing me a curated list of relevant topics 🔍. Some of these articles catch my attention ✨, and I feel compelled to dive deeper into them. Occasionally, I even feel like sharing them with my peers 👥. However, sending random messages out of the blue feels a bit awkward 😅.
For context, outside of work, WhatsApp is my primary communication tool 📱. As you may know, WhatsApp now offers a "Channel" feature that allows users to create content and broadcast it to anyone who subscribes to their channel 🌐. Inspired by this, I decided to give it a try ✨. I started by inviting close friends and colleagues to follow my channel 👫. I made it clear from the beginning that updates wouldn’t be too frequent (since I’m not entirely consistent yet—haha 😄) and assured them it wouldn’t be spammy 🚫❌.
My hope is that this channel can serve as a platform for me to share insights from what I’ve read 🧠 and express my thoughts 💭. Ideally, if any followers find the content intriguing, they might reach out to discuss or validate the ideas further 🤝. This could lead to meaningful discussions and mutual learning experiences 📈💡.
Initially, I posted content on Saturdays while waiting for my child to finish school ⏳🎒. However, after a few weeks, I unexpectedly paused ⏸️. Why? I received feedback that has stayed with me ever since 🤔. The concern was that the content I shared needed more balanced delivery 🎯. Not all followers were comfortable reading detailed sources in English 🇬🇧, and there was a need to consider the varying levels of understanding among my audience 📊.
Until now, I’ve positioned the channel based on my personal comfort level—reading detailed English sources and sharing insights directly 📖. But moving forward, if I want to revive the channel, I realize I have some homework to do 📝📚. I need to improve how I present the content, making it more accessible and easier to understand for a broader audience 🌈. This means putting in the effort to summarize and translate complex ideas into simple Indonesian 🇮🇩✨.
